A renowned name in the global household refrigerators and freezers industry, the Germany based Liebherr Group has recently announced its decision to invest around INR 500 crore to build its first manufacturing facility in Aurangabad, India. According to reliable sources, the premium manufacturer of refrigeration and cooling appliances finalized its India debut post evaluating its growth prospects in other nations along the likes of Russia, China, Brazil, and a few European countries as well.
According to ET Retail, Liebherr is reportedly in talks with numerous organized retailers in the country such as Vijay Sales, Croma, Reliance Retail and some additional local participants. Furthermore, it has also been reported that the company plans to fortify its foothold in the mass premium segment of household refrigerators and freezers market initially, and is not likely to collaborate with e-commerce marketplaces in its first phase of business operations. Also, the firm is expected to only tie-up with well trained and authorized distribution dealers and not every prospective retailer would have access to its products.
For the record, the firm has over 60 years of experience in household refrigerators and freezers industry with a total sales volume of around 2.2 million units each year. Moreover, the company has a robust presence in more than 90 countries with manufacturing plants at 4 locations (3 in Europe and 1 in Malaysia).
Speaking on the development, Liebherr’s Managing Director of Sales, Steffen Nagel was quoted stating that the India household refrigerators and freezers market has not come up with a strong alternative for the end users in the past few years. He further stated that Liebherr could add more variety to the existing product spectrum and provide more choices to the Indian consumers.
As per authentic sources, the Liebherr group plans to roll out a new line of refrigerators for the Indian mass premium segment in May this year.
