MGM’s TV network Epix enters streaming service market with Epix Now

The MGM-owned cable TV network Epix has recently announced that it is entering the streaming service market with its own service named Epix Now. The service will reportedly boast a large library of movies and the channel’s original television shows including Pennyworth and Berlin Station.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the service is currently only available in the U.S. at the rate of $6 per month. The app will now be available for Android and Apple devices and will also offer access to the Amazon Fire TV and Roku customers shortly. Users are allowed to download the content for offline viewing and will have access to stream videos to 4K Ultra HD streaming on connected devices.

It has been reported that the launch of the new streaming service has enabled Epix to become the latest company aspiring to secure consumers who are increasingly opting out of the traditional pay-tv subscriptions. These recent streaming services that are racing against Netflix seems to be launching all the time, for instance, the DC Universe service in 2018 or Disney’s upcoming Disney+ service, cite sources. They further claim that Epix Now in particular seems positioned against HBO Now, as it includes access to Epix’s channels and a movie catalog.

MGM and Epix are jumping into increasingly crowded streaming service market. Consumer behavior has recently witnessed a paradigm shift in the face of expensive cable channel packages and this has fostered major studios to increase the number of standalone channels accordingly. Industry experts are of the thought that it has become cheaper for network operators to ditch cable and run all of the content through streaming services just like Netflix, reports The Verge.

Epix President Michael Wright, was quoted saying that the launching new streaming service will not only help the company to provide its nationwide consumers with access to its original programs & blockbuster movies, but also in welcoming new audiences to its network.
