Siemens Healthineers & NuVasive collaborate to improve spine surgery

Siemens Healthineers, the German medical technology company recently announced a strategic alliance with NuVasive, the spine technology firm, to develop technologies that can improve clinical outcomes of minimally invasive spine surgery. The alliance, being dubbed as the Spine Precision Partnership is also expected to include marketing and commercialization of the technologies developed.

Siemens brings its wide portfolio of imaging systems that include 3D imaging of complex spine cases to the deal while NuVasive, known for its minimally disruptive and clinically replicable spine surgery solutions, will bring its own in-depth knowledge to the partnership. With extensive insight in their respective fields, the companies are planning to focus on developing solutions that will enhance minimally disruptive spine surgery operating room workflow precision and efficiency.

Incidentally, Siemens’ already made it to the headlines a few days back for having consolidated its stance in the healthcare space. Pharmabiz reported that Siemens Healthineers is also expanding its facilities to help patients access better diagnostic outcomes, having set up a diagnostics manufacturing facility at Vadodara, Gujarat, India.

Peter Seitz, Surgery head, Siemens Healthineers, has been reported to say that the company is looking forward to working with NuVasive in order to develop navigation tools and intra-operative 3D-imaging for advanced imaging systems that will in turn help neurosurgeons as well as spine surgeons to be more efficient, faster and achieve cost effectiveness in the operating room. He added that better image quality, predictability, improved workflow efficiency and reproducible results, expected to be garnered out of the partnership, would be able to add new standards to spine surgery and related care delivery.

According to reliable sources, Cios Spin, the mobile 3D imaging that has been designed by Siemens Healthineers to ensure intra-operative quality assurance will be, as a part of the deal, integrated with Pulse, the surgical automation platform designed by NuVasive.

Gregory Lucier, CEO and Chairman, NuVasive has been quoted to say that the combination of Pulse with the advanced imaging technology is anticipated to provide compelling benefits to surgeons and hospitals handling spine surgery.
