Fishermen rescued after two days at sea

According to media reports Monday, three fishermen from the Union territory of Puducherry who went missing after venturing into the sea, were rescued in an unconscious state in their boat, mid-sea off Marakanam coast on Monday. The three fishermen, rescued by Tamil Nadu fishermen, were admitted at a government hospital near Marakkanam.

As reported by CTC, the fishermen hailing from Vaithikuppam and Solai Nagar coastal hamlets left for fishing on October 1. They were slated to return on the next day. However they did not return home and their relatives sought the help of the government to trace them. Coast Guard personnel launched a hunt for the missing fishermen.

Meanwhile a group of fishermen from Muttukadu fishing off Marakkanam coast spotted the Puducherry fishermen in an unconscious state in their boat, which was drifting off course.
Inquiries revealed that their boat drifted off course following strong winds and the fishermen, without food and water for three days, fainted. Their relatives have sought the government to shift them to a hospital in Puducherry from Tamil Nadu.
